Red Dwarf returns to Dave later this year
It’s official – the latest series of ‘Red Dwarf’ is coming later this year.
According to the official Red Dwarf website, Series XI of the hit British sci-fi comedy is heading to Dave later this year… and will appear on our screens sometime in September.
“While the specific day is yet to be confirmed, we can now announce that Series XI of Red Dwarf will be broadcast on Dave in September 2016,” they revealed. “Officially.”

And that’s not all – they’ve got a cheeky synopsis, too.
“The show’s six episode run sees two of the Dwarfers’ dreams come true: Rimmer accidentally saves the life of a Space Corps Captain and is promoted to Officer, while Cat takes time off from being in love with himself to fall in love with a female Cat with a secret.”
“Meantime, Lister wakes up to discover a deranged droid has stolen some of his body parts and Kryten has a mid-life crisis and considers leaving the Dwarfers for a younger crew. The posse also find themselves in an alternative America where modern technology is outlawed, making both Kryten and Rimmer illegal.”
“With big laughs and dazzling effects, Red Dwarf XI recaptures the show’s golden age.”
But can ‘Red Dwarf’ XI really recapture the magic of the original BBC show?
‘Red Dwarf’ was created by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor back in 1988… and saw Dave Lister (played by Craig Charles) coming to terms with being the last human alive aboard the Red Dwarf mining ship. He was accompanied by the hologram of his dead ‘friend’, Rimmer (Chris Barrie), a lifeform which evolved from his dead cat (Danny John-Jules) and a rescued android named Kryten (Robert Llewellyn).
And it made for some truly magical TV moments.
At the height of its popularity, ‘Red Dwarf’ won an International Emmy Award as well as being hailed as the Best BBC Comedy at the British Comedy Awards.
And for good reason.
‘Red Dwarf’s irreverent humour led to the crew taking on a shapeshifting alien as they lampooned the classic sci-fi flick, ‘Alien’, as well as the iconic appearance of Duane Dibbley. And then there’s Kryten’s ‘attachment’…
But after a phenomenal eight series run on the BBC, ‘Red Dwarf’ took a ten year break… and eventually returned with a three-episode TV special on the digital channel, Dave. Since then, we’ve seen another new, full series – ‘Red Dwarf’ X… and with the boys back on top form, it looks as though we won’t have to wait too long to clamber aboard the Red Dwarf once more.
Will it be as good as the earlier episodes?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it’s great to see them back.
