EL PASO — Kailey Wyckoff hit a tying solo home run in the sixth inning and Ellie Bailey unloaded a go-ahead shot in the seventh as Texas Tech downed Texas-El Paso 5-4 Friday night in the Miners' tournament.

Wyckoff's drive to center field chased UTEP starting pitcher Aalijah Alarcon with one out in the sixth, making the score 4-4. Bailey led off the seventh with a homer to left off Mackenzee Collins (0-1).

UTEP (4-3) had its first two batters reach in the bottom of the seventh and bunted them to second and third. But Tech pitcher Kendall Fritz (2-0) coaxed a popout from Ajia Richard and a fly out from Rylan Dooner to end it.

Through eight games, Bailey is leading Tech (6-2) with a .421 average and eight runs batted in. The homer by Wyckoff was the first for the freshman from Katy.

UTEP's Caitlyn Brockway hit a three-run homer off Erna Carlin in the first.

Earlier Friday, Sage Hoover allowed two hits in a shortened complete game and three of her teammates homered as Tech run-ruled Santa Clara 9-1 in five innings.

Peyton Blythe, Arriana Villa and Alanna Barraza launched two-run homers for the Red Raiders. The homers by Blythe and Villa came in a six-run second inning, sandwiched around a run-scoring double by Barraza and an RBI single from Makinzy Herzog.

Hoover (3-0) struck out eight and didn't walk a batter.

Tech is scheduled for six games in four days in UTEP's event. On Saturday, Tech takes on New Mexico (3-3) at 2 p.m. and UTEP at 8 p.m.

Abigail Charpentier had an RBI single for Santa Clara (1-5).

Women's tennis

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Yekaterina Dmitrichenko beat Marta Gonzalez-Ballbe 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, clinching a 4-0 victory for Texas Tech over a depleted UC Santa Barbara.

Unable to field a full lineup, UCSB (1-5) forfeited one of the three doubles matches and two singles matches. A win at No. 2 doubles by Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea, coupled with the forfeit on the No. 3 court, gave Tech the doubles point.

On Saturday, Tech (5-2) faces Arizona (8-2) at 9 a.m. and Kansas (3-1) at 5 p.m.
