Red Raiders hold off North Texas with goals from 3 players

DENTON — Hannah Anderson, Gisselle Kozarski and Macy Schultz scored a goal apiece as Texas Tech edged North Texas 3-2 on Sunday, moving above .500 for the first time since Aug. 18.

Tech (3-2-3) has won two and tied one in its last three matches.

Anderson's goal came in the sixth minute off when she converted a free kick by Sierra Jones. North Texas (4-3-1) tied it 10 minutes later when Summer Brown scored off a setup from Grace Dennis.

The goals by Kozarski and Schultz came in the 31st and 37th minutes, respectively, Kozarski off an assist from Kaitlyn Giametta and Schultz scoring unassisted after making a run from outside the 18-yard box.

UNT's Olivia Klein narrowed the gap to 3-2 early in the second half with her sixth goal of the season.

Tech goalkeeper Madison White made four saves. The Mean Green outshot the Red Raiders 17-8, including 6-3 in shots on goal.

Tech volleyball

HOUSTON — Danyle Courtney pounded 16 kills and Rice dealt Texas Tech its first loss of the season, winning 17-25, 25-21, 25-15, 18-25, 15-12 on Sunday's final day of the Adidas Invitational at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Ellie Bickelmeyer added 14 kills for Rice, and Anota Adekunle had 12.

The outcome left both teams 8-1.

Kenna Sauer and Reagan Cooper led Tech with 21 and 12 kills, respectively. The Red Raiders got 45 assists from Reese Rhodes and 25 digs from Maddie Correa. Karrington Jones was good for seven kills and four blocks, and Brooke Kanas led the Red Raiders in blocks with five.

Next up for Tech is the Red Raider Classic from Thursday through Saturday at United Supermarkets Arena. Tech will play four matches over three days.

Tech men's tennis

MIDLAND — Senior Franco Ribero reached the singles semifinals in the main draw and sophomore Tyler Stewart won three matches in a day, highlighting Texas Tech's efforts in Saturday's second day of the Racquet Club Prize Money Invitational.

Ribero beat 19th-ranked Noah Schachter of Texas A&M 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, then lost a semifinal 6-2, 6-4 to Bradley Frye of Southern California.

Stewart beat UT-San Antonio's Alan Magadan 6-3, 6-3 and Texas A&M's J.C. Roddick 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (4). In doubles, Isaac Arevalo and Stewart downed Oklahoma's Nathan Han and Justin Schlageter 8-3 to reach the semifinals of the main draw.

Tech women's golf

Texas Tech is one of 17 teams entered in the Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque.

The first two rounds of the tournament are scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CDT Monday. The final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. CDT shotgun start on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.

In addition to UNM and Tech, the other teams entered are Cal Poly, Denver, Fresno State, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Nevada-Las Vegas, North Carolina-Charlotte, Northwestern, Ohio State, San Diego State, Southern California and SMU.

Tech started the season in the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach, finishing sixth out of eight teams and led individually by Gala Dumez tying for sixth.
