Brockton schools draft new dress code, scaling back clothing restrictions

Brockton Public Schools released an updated proposal for next school year's dress code policy for Brockton High School, after the district received bcklash for its drastic suggestion last month. In July, the district proposed a dress code for the high school's 2023-24 school year that would have restricted student's from wearing anything other than Polo shirts or button-ups with tan, black or gray plants.

Fans go bananas as Banana-Ball invades Campanelli Stadium in Brockton

Savannah Bananas founder Jesse Cole has heard plenty of buzz throughout the team's World Tour this summer. Wednesday's pit stop at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton garnered Cole, a Scituate native, the most local chatter he's gotten along the way. It was the first time the Bananas, an ongoing social media sensation, have taken their show to Massachusetts. "The first time bringing the Bananas to Massachusetts is special," Cole said. "I grew up here, played (base)ball all around here, played ball at this stadium. For there to be a sold-out crowd, it's pretty special."

Driver flown to hospital after head-on crash with truck in Bridgewater

A driver was flown to a regional trauma center after suffering serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon, Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte and Fire Chief Michael P. MacDermott said. First responders arrived at the scene of the crash on Route 28 (Bedford Street) near the Old Colony Correctional Center and Bridgewater Ice Arena, a little after 3 p.m. to discover a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a Volkswagen Touareg SUV — each with serious front end damage — blocking the road.

The question has dogged Brockton businessman Hamilton Rodrigues' run for mayor since he announced his candidacy: Does he live in Brockton? The owner of George's Restaurant says he stays in a small single-family home at 17 Chamberlain Court, behind the iconic bar and grill. But on Aug. 3, the town clerk in Canton sent a letter stating his residency had been updated to 95 Rockland St. in Canton. And the next day, Brockton's Election Commission notified Rodrigues that he had been removed from Brockton's list of registered voters

Stoughton Motel will become affordable apartment units

Father Bill’s & MainSpring plans to turn the former Stoughton Motel into 24 affordable, permanent housing units for individuals experiencing homelessness. The shelter acquired the building located at 1919 Washington St. on June 1 and will renovate each room into a one-bedroom, rent-subsidized apartment and will have on-site support services. The motel will be modeled after a similar facility in Brockton – The Roadside Inn, which Father Bill’s purchased and turned into affordable housing during the pandemic.
