Turner, 38, is expected to spend most of his time at designated hitter or first base, with Rafael Devers at third. Turner had been a Dodger for the last nine years— Joon Lee (@joonlee) December 18, 2022
The 38-year-old infielder has spent the last nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With Rafael Devers manning the hot corner and 22-year-old Triston Casas as a projected fixture at first base for the foreseeable future, it is likely Turner is used as a platoon corner infielder or as Boston’s primary designated hitter in the wake of JD Martinez’ departure.
Turner played in 66 games at third and 62 games at DH next year. He slashed a line of .278/.350..438 with an OPS of .788 in 2022.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the deal includes an opt-out after the first year.
