Red wave washes over Boone County

Nov. 9—Center Township voters chose Casey Samson as their new Center Township Trustee Tuesday after months of speculation over the future of the township's fire department.

Samson, a Republican, was the candidate in the May primary election who wanted to keep the Center Township Fire Department separate from the Lebanon Fire Department. He was the heir apparent until Aaron Metheny filed as an independent candidate in July and was backed by pro-merger supporters.

Samson received 3,158 votes to Metheny's 1,431.

The county had a voter turnout of 44.15% Tuesday. Nearly half of the 25,098 cast were straight party votes: 7,436 Republican, 3,248 Democrat, and nine Libertarian.

Only one Democrat landed the majority of votes in Boone County, and that was Fletcher Brunes, who ran unopposed for one of three seats on the Harrison Township Board alongside Gary Baldauf and Arlan Johnson.
