Red, white and blue: Sioux Falls residents celebrate with Fourth of July parade

It was a patriotic time for people of all ages as the trucks and cars drove up Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls for the annual Fourth of July parade.

The City of Sioux Falls closed off parts of downtown for traffic as paradegoers lined the sides of Phillips Avenue from 13th Street to Falls Park.

The parade was one of multiple events planned by the city to commemorate Independence Day.

It was a time to feel patriotic, but it was also family time. Joe and Kelsi Heiberger brought along their 2-year-old twins Miles and Mason for their first ever parade.

The duo said they were most excited about one vehicle in particular, and thankfully for them, they didn't have to wait long.

Mason and Miles Heiberger, both 2, sat at the corner of 10th Street and Phillips Avenue awaiting the fire trucks during their first-ever Fourth of July Parade in Sioux Falls on Monday, July 4, 2022.

"With the weather and the Fourth of July, it's the first time the boys are out (at the parade), they love fire trucks," Joe Heiberger said.

The firetrucks, a current and an older model one, were near the front of the parade line.

Several organizations and political campaigns took part in the parade. While some rode by, others walked and some even did cartwheels down the street.

The highlight for Mason and Miles Heiberger along with many of the other children present along the parade route was candy, stickers, flags and toys given to them as they sat in the corner of Phillips Avenue and 10th Street.
