Two people in a cat rescued from Clear Creek

Monday, Dec. 27, 2022

Two people and a cat were rescued from an island in Clear Creek in south Redding on Tuesday morning.

Redding Fire Department crews found the three trapped on terra firma in the middle of the creek, surrounded by fast-moving waters in the creek, which was swollen from recent rains, according to the Redding Fire Department.

Trains traveling the nearby Union Pacific Railroad tracks had to be stopped while crews worked to get the cat and two people to shore, fire department officials said.

No one was injured in the incident and the two people declined medical treatment, officials said.

Shasta County surveys residents about community needs

Dec. 20, 2022

The Shasta County Housing and Community Action Agency is surveying county residents to find what their households and families need.

Survey results will help to identify top needs and priorities for the community, from housing and health care to food and child services. The agency uses survey results to develop appropriate services and programs and to request resources to help Shasta County residents.

The county’s community needs survey is conducted every two years and develops its 2024/2025 Community Action Plan based on that input.  The plan is to be shared with the community and approved by the county before being submitted to the state.

The survey is open to anyone who spends 50% or more of their time living or working in Shasta County, a statement from the agency said.

Residents can take the survey, which is available in English and Spanish, at the Community Survey link: www.shastacounty.gov/housing-community-action-programs now through January 31, 2023.
