Redding Rancheria Chairman Jack Potter, Jr. has received the Warrior Award from the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California.

The Warrior Award is given annually to a tribal leader who exhibits “outstanding work in support of the Chamber’s efforts for economic self-sufficiency for our people through business ownership and workforce development,” said a statement from the Chamber.

In recognizing Potter on Dec. 2, the chamber noted his work for California’s tribes and Native American people through his leadership in Indian County locally, regionally, statewide and nationally.

Most recently, as the leader of the local planning committee for the National Congress of American Indians’ Annual Conference in Sacramento this fall, a chamber official said.

“Chairman Potter assumed leadership of the LPC and assisted California tribes and Native organizations in presenting one of the most meaningful cultural events ever held at the NCAI Annual Conference,” said Chamber President Tracy Stanhoff, “and he did this huge undertaking with excellent efficiency, humor and grace.”

Potter has been a member of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Council for 18 years. Among other activities, he also belongs to the California Rural Indian Health Board, is a board member of the Redding Rancheria Community Fund, the Pow Wow Committee, the California Tribal Families Coalition and the Indigenous People's Day Committee for Shasta County.

The Redding Rancheria own the Win-River Resort & Casino in Redding.
