Redding Rancheria opens mental health and dentistry wellness center in Redding

North State residents have a new medical facility offering dental and mental health services.

Officials from the Redding Rancheria Native American Tribal organization cut the ribbon at the grand opening of Churn Creek Wellness and Dental Care on Nov. 28.

Formerly a private dental practice, the Rancheria completely renovated the 4,000-square-foot building at 3110 Churn Creek Road in Redding, according to Glen Hayward, executive director of Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Systems.

When it opens to patients on Monday Dec. 4, the wellness center will offer mental health services and addiction recovery services for individuals with opioid and alcohol use disorder, Hayward said. Staff include behavioral health specialists for therapy and counseling services.

The center will also offer psychiatric care "for medication management for mild to moderate psychiatric medical conditions," and a menu of dentistry services including annual exams, cleanings and minor oral surgery, he said.

This week, the public got a first look at the new complex.

"We had to completely gut the inside, down to the studs of the building and remodel it from there," Hayward said.

The Rancheria improved on the building's access points to better accommodate people with disabilities and installed state-of-the-art dental equipment. They also added a new parking lot "with updated landscaping," Hayward said.

You don't have to be Native American to be a patient, he added, as the wellness center will accept anyone with Partnership Health or Medicaid health coverage. However, the center won't accept private insurances, Hayward said.

"The vision of the Redding Rancheria is to care for the under-served populations who have limited access to healthcare," he said.

Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Systems has other campuses in Shasta and Trinity counties, including its main facilities at 1441 Liberty St. in Redding and 81 Arbuckle Court in Weaverville, and a family practice and urgent care clinic at 3184 Churn Creek Road in Redding.
