REDONDO BEACH, CA — Graduating 2021 Redondo Union High School students are invited to apply for three upcoming scholarships sponsored by the Redondo Beach Police Foundation.
"The scholarships encourage and highlight students who are civic-minded as well as distinctly promote the Vision Statement of the Police Department," department officials said in a news release.
The scholarships are described as the following:
One $2,500.00 Vision Scholarship: The criteria will be to write an essay that describes the Vision Statement of the Police Department and the value of community engagement. Applicants are required to describe a community engagement event that can be implemented by the police department and fulfills the department's vision.
Two $500.00 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships: The criteria for the applicants includes writing an essay detailing how they demonstrate qualities like Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Redondo Beach Police Department Community Engagement Board will narrow the recipients down to three for each category. Then, the Redondo Beach Police Foundation will select the recipients in each category.
Once COVID-19 restrictions allow and it is safe to do so, the 2020 community engagement events, along with the new engagement ideas, will be implemented by the Department’s Special Operations Bureau.
