Redwood City, San Mateo County Report New Coronavirus Cases

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — San Mateo County reported 27 additional cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday, bringing the countywide total of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to 617.

The county also reported no new known COVID-19-related deaths, leaving the countywide death toll at 21.

All of the deaths have involved people over the age of 51, and all but four have been among those over the age of 71.

The majority (51%) of those who have tested positive for coronavirus in the county are 50 or younger.

Deaths in California are approaching 400, with 397 included in the official count by Johns Hopkins University. There are 16,429 confirmed cases in the Golden State, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Nationwide, New York, New Jersey, and Michigan all have more confirmed cases than California. The total number of confirmed cases in the U.S. shortly before midnight is just shy of 400,000. The U.S. death toll is now 12,910

All school districts in San Mateo County and much of the Bay Area, officially canceled classes for the rest of the school year.
