Even Ree Drummond Makes Mistakes: The Story of a Fried Chicken Pizza Gone Wrong

If you're anything us, you've watched Ree Drummond flawlessly execute countless recipes on her hit Food Network show, The Pioneer Woman. As she confidently whips up delightful dishes from her Oklahoma ranch, we've wondered "Does Drummond ever mess up in the kitchen?"

Indeed, as the charmingly funny TV star admits on her Instagram, she's burned, under-cooked, and all-around flopped when cooking, just like the rest of us. But, there's one recipe she flubbed while filming an episode of her show that she'll never forget.

As The Cheat Sheet unearthed from an interview in The Pioneer Woman Magazine, that memorable kitchen fiasco occurred when she was making a chicken-strip pizza.

"I was just talking to my director about the one recipe I wish I’d never made on my show, because the finished product was not what I had imagined it would be. It was a chicken-strip pizza with pickles and sauce. The vision I had was of big, beautiful pieces of homemade fried chicken and thick-cut pickles with a drizzle of honey," Drummond replied to a reader question inquiring as to whether she's ever messed up in the kitchen while filming. "But because of the timing of the episode, I wound up using frozen chicken strips—and they had not won any chicken-strip beauty pageants. Then, we threw coleslaw into the mix and it was just a sea of confusion. I wish I could undo (and unsee!) it."

Beyond that, though, Drummond concedes that most of her cooking mistakes are small enough that she can save the dish before it makes it to the dining room table.
