Whether she’s chucking ice cream at Meryl Streep’s head or rocking a candy necklace, Reese Witherspoon’s sweet tooth is the stuff of legends. Today, Witherspoon posted a throwback back-to-school photo on Instagram, joking about her sweet neck adornment and making a goofy suggestion for a back-to-school hack parents can try out on their own. There’s lots to unpack here — how much baby Reese looks like adult Reese, how much baby Reese looks like baby Ava, and so on — so let’s dive right in.

The photo Witherspoon posted features her posing in front of blue background (one of those typical, nondescript backdrops for school photos) and wearing a striped blue tank, pigtails, candy necklace, and quintessential Reese grin. “Mom tip: Send your kid to school with a candy necklace so she can share it with all her new friends! 😝 #backtoschool,” the mother of three wrote. It’s not the worst tip we’ve heard by a long shot!

As expected, Witherspoon’s celebrity friends are in absolute heaven over the photo. “Oh my heavens,” Mindy Kaling writes. “Ohhhhhhhh! Little Reese!!!!!” Ava DuVernay adds. “So cute,” Julianne Moore chimes in. A few commenters also wrote in wondering whether this is, in fact, Reese Witherspoon we’re looking at — or whether it might be young Ava Phillippe, Witherspoon’s now-19-year-old daughter. “I don’t know if this is you or your daughter 😂,” a fan writes in. “Is this Ava or [Reese]???” another demands.

Finally, fans would like to make it known just how much this photo also looks like Witherspoon’s second-youngest child, 15-year-old Deacon Reese Phillippe (her youngest is Tennessee James Toth, age 6). “Wow!!!! Deacon looks just like you! I never thought so, until seeing this pic!,” one comment remarks. “Your youngest is your twin!!!” another adds. It looks like this charming face runs in the family (lucky kids!).

And hey, if you do try out her candy necklace trick, please report back and let us know how it goes!
