Reese Witherspoon to present girl-power BBC nature series Fierce Queens for Quibi

The BBC is bringing its renowned nature-docuseries prowess to the small(er) screen, with an additional not-so-secret weapon: Reese Witherspoon.

The Morning Show star will present and narrate Fierce Queens, a BBC-produced nature series for the mobile-based streaming service Quibi. The show will have a unique feminist angle, exploring the animal kingdom’s “rebel matriarchs, powerful leaders, and dangerous lovers,” per a press release, from hyenas to fireflies to humpback whales.

The news comes as another BBC nature series, Seven Worlds, One Planet, is set to premiere stateside on Saturday. That series explores each of the Earth’s continents over seven episodes.

Quibi, scheduled to launch April 6, is a unique streaming service offering content in “quick bites” of 10 minutes or less, viewable only on mobile devices. Masterminded by DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, the platform has a bounty of A-list talent lined up for an ambitious slate of original programming, including Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez, and now Witherspoon.
