Reeves Foundation grants awarded

DOVER − The Reeves Foundation awarded $1,311,363.50 to 56 local organizations last year.

The nonprofit was founded in 1966 by businessman Samuel J. Reeves Jr. with funding in part from his two sisters, Helen and Jane, and wife, Margaret. The foundation’s emphasis is on health agencies, with grants also available for youth agencies, education and public administration. Priority is given to capital improvement projects, and requests within Tuscarawas County.

The foundation has handed out $40.9 million since inception.

The 2022 grant recipients, amounts and grant purposes are:

  • Claymont City Schools: $15,000, pole-vault high-jump equipment

  • Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools: $100,000, auditorium

  • Dover Soccer Association: $8,000, chain-link fence

  • Camp Zimmerman Foundation: $21,000, retaining wall

  • Tuscora Park Foundation: $50,000, pickleball courts

  • Dover City Schools: $50,000, Middle School library renovation

  • Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County Inc.: $19,003, stage and proscenium curtains

  • Tuscarawas County Farmers Market: $8,210, 10 picnic tables

  • Dover Public Library: $20,000, fire-alarm system

  • Strasburg Band Boosters: $20,000, band instruments

  • Twin City Christian Service Center: $2,500, hygiene products

  • York Township Fire Department: $6,480, thermal-imaging camera

  • Mineral-Sandy Ambulance District: $10,000, monitor/defibrillator

  • First United Methodist Church: $9,951.11, lighting/landscaping project

  • Journey's End Ministries: $3,000, electric/battery pallet-jack

  • Mineral City Area Historical Society: $2,100, office furniture and printer

  • Pan Handle Athletic Club: $24,962.16, Steiner tractor/mowing deck

  • Bucks Township: $20,638.11, dump bed/bed liner

  • Power of the Pen: $5,000, District Writing Tournament

  • Mineral City Village: $37,871, excavator

  • Uhrichsville Fire Department: $28,583, repair refinish floors/new grating

  • Indian Valley Music Boosters: $9,000, trailer

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio: $10,000, copier

  • Buckeye Career Center, Indian Valley Local Schools, New Philadelphia City Schools, Strasburg-Franklin Local Schools, Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools: $5,000 each, Project Lead the Way

  • Tuscarawas County Heritage Home Association: $2,746, brochures

  • Immaculate Conception School: $30,000, Scholastic Reading Program

  • Tuscarawas County Public Library: $25,000, boiler

  • Claymont City Schools: $25,000, sound system

  • First Presbyterian Church: $9,000, roof project

  • Mobile Meals Dover-New Philadelphia: $10,000, styrofoam containers/software fees

  • Tuscarawas County YMCA: $36,500, HVAC Wellness Center

  • Tuscarawas County Agricultural Society: $15,800, roof repairs at show arena

  • Camp Zimmerman: $8,920, flooring for cabins and shower

  • Mineral City Area Historical Society: $1,340, blinds, paint, folding tables/chairs

  • Dover Soccer Association: $40,000, two soccer fields

  • Village of Zoar: $6,355.30, severe-weather tornado siren

  • Twin City Christian Service Center: $2,126.09, platform trucks/rolling ladder

  • Dover Exchange Club: $10,000, picnic shelter

  • Tuscarawas Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School: $111,318, school bus

  • Warwick Township: $75,000, tractor/mower

  • Dover Historical Society: $70,000, Reeves Museum, 2023 operating expenses

  • Tuscarawas County University Foundation: $81,184.62, weight room equipment

  • Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community: $55,000, operating and emergency funds

  • New Philadelphia Quaker Club: $100,000, flooring project at Quaker Dome

  • Mineral City Volunteer Fire Department: $45,446.46, dive rescue equipment

  • Mobile Meals of Dover-New Philadelphia: $10,000, discretionary grant

The foundation board meets bimonthly to consider grant requests. Last year, board member Ronald Pissocra retired. Two new community members, Robin Waltz and Dalene Baker, joined the board.
