Regatta's musical acts announced

Apr. 13—WORTHINGTON — Worthington's annual Windsurfing Regatta and Music Festival is now less than two months away, and organizers of the event have announced the rest of the musical line-up for this year's event on the shores of Lake Okabena.

Earlier, the

committee announced

that country music star Easton Corbin would be this year's headliner, taking the stage at 9 p.m. Friday, June 10. Corbin's debut single, "A Little More Country Than That," established him as a mainstay on the country charts. He was named Billboard's 2010 Top New Country Artist. Since then, he has had one No. 1 hit, "Roll With It," and seven Top 10 singles.

Preceding Corbin on stage will be Maiden Dixie, set to perform at 7 p.m. While the band performed at Worthington's Windsurfing Regatta and Music Festival in 2015, committee member Barry Roberts said it's a whole new band, and one of its newer members — Wesley Berger — hails from Worthington.

"They do a lot of events in the Lakes area," Roberts said of the quintet, which blends country, rock, blues and folk genres.

Saturday's musical entertainment includes Legacy of the Loud, to perform at 4 p.m. on the festival stage. A Twin Cities-based rock band comprised of accomplished musicians will cover top-selling artists like Journey, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns 'N Roses, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Styx, Boston, Def Leppard, Kiss, Foreigner, White Snake, Lover Boy, Cinderella, Poison and more.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, country music artist and songwriter Brad Morgan takes the stage. Born in Iowa, Morgan now resides in Nashville and continues to play shows in the Midwest. He has been nominated for Midwest Country Music Organization's 2019 Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year, and 2021 Entertainer of the Year.

Viva Knievel will round out the two-day festival Saturday night, performing a chaotic stage show featuring salute-inducing patriotism, face-melting guitar solos, and earth-rumbling renditions of favorite songs. Dubbed an 8- to 100-piece fearless American wrecking ball, the band features a full horn section and performs funk and soul, contemporary hits, and rock classics.

"Our main focus is to appeal to everyone and try to hit every genre," said Roberts, the program director for RadioWorks and coordinator of the festival's musical acts. "We like to bring in a national country act, but on the other night, we like to have a totally opposite type of music.

"Viva Knievel is a band you really can't describe — it's a very energetic show," he added. "(They) only do about 10 shows a year; the band members live around the country."

All of the musical acts are free to attend, with the stage set up at Sailboard Beach on Lake Okabena.

"We are able to do it thanks to sponsors, beverage sales, and food vendors," Roberts said. "It's a great event to kick off the summer."
