All-Region boys and girls golf teams

Nov. 24—BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

EDDIE KAUFMAN, Mid Valley, Senior

Transformation as a complete player was evident in a pair of first-place finishes in tournament play, winning the Bob Simons Classic and earning medalist honors (5-under 67) in Lackawanna District 2 qualifying tournament. A quick study who adapted and improved with a midseason swing change, part of the steady improvement over his career. Mature and mentally tough. Course management was one of his best skills.

GAVIN JUNE, Lackawanna Trail, Junior

Two-time state qualifier finished 11th in Class 2A at PIAA championship. Finished third at Lackawanna District 2 qualifying, was fifth in D-2 field and ninth at Bob Simons Classic.

MICHAEL MASLANKA, Riverside, Junior

Shot school-record 6-under 30 vs. Mid Valley, and was second in Lackawanna District 2 Class 2A qualifier, tied for second at Bob Simons Classic and was eighth in D-2 event.

LUKE MORGAN, Abington Heights, Senior

Led inexperienced Comets to another Lackawanna League Class 3A team title. T-5 in Lackawanna District 2 qualifier and seventh in D-2 individual field. Eighth at Bob Simons Classic.

LV PEGULA, Valley View, Senior

Tied for 55th at PIAA Class 3A individual championship. Earned 3A medalist honors in Lackawanna District 2 qualifying event, was fourth in D-2 tournament and T6 at Bob Simons Classic.

KEVIN WORTMANN, Wallenpaupack, Junior

Scored major victory pocketing District 2 Class 3A individual championship. Finished T-39 at PIAA individual tournament, and grabbed second in Lackawanna D-2 qualifier and T-6 at Bob Simons Classic.

GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

GWEN POWELL, North Pocono, Junior

Her cerebral approach, determination and level-headedness are hallmarks of her continually improving game. Added length off the tee this season led to victories in the Bob Simons Classic, the Lackawanna League qualifying tournament and a third consecutive District 2 Class 3A individual title, leading her team to the state tournament as well. Finished 14th at PIAA championships. Three-time All-Region Player of the Year.

KAYLA BENSON, HONESDALE, Junior

Finished tied for 17th in PIAA Class 3A championships. Took third at Bob Simons Classic, was runner-up in District 2 3A qualifying, and was third in D-2 individual championship. Second All-Region pick.

GIANNA CAFARELLA, Scranton Prep, Senior

Four-time All-Region selection was medalist at PIAA Class 2A tournament, tying for ninth. Champion of Scott Greens Girls Classic, and second at Simons Classic, D-2 qualifying and D-2 2A championship.

JENNIFER GENELL, Riverside, Senior

In season highlighted by a hole-in-one, finished T-6 in Simons Classic, T-4 in Lackawanna District 2 qualifying, T-4 in Scott Greens Girls Classic, and T-7 in D-2 individual event.

MIRANDA KAROSCIK, Scranton Prep, Senior

Captured District 2 Class 2A individual championship and finished T-17 at PIAA championships. Finished second at Scott Greens Girls Classic and was fourth at Bob Simons Classic.

CHLOE LYNCH, Scranton Prep, Sophomore

Was key ingredient to her team's third-place finish in the PIAA Class 2A team championship. Placed eighth in Bob Simons Classic and was fourth in District 2 individual tournament.

COACH OF THE YEAR

DANIELLE DALESSANDRO, Scranton Prep

Guided girls team to their best finish at the PIAA championships, finishing third, four shots out of a medal. Also mentored state individual medalist Gianna Cafarella and District 2 champ Miranda Karoscik.
