Region Golf: Borden County claims title, Seminole advances to state in girls tournaments

Seminole secured a spot at state for the second year in a row after finishing third in the Region I-4A girls golf tournament, which concluded on Tuesday at Shadow Hills Golf Course.

Andrews Black had the top three individual finishers to run away with the team title. Kyleigh McGowen finished first at 152, Zoe Woemmel second at 153 and Emme Darnold third at 154. The team shot a collective 617 for the title.

Canyon secured the No. 2 spot in the team standings with a 651, followed by Seminole at 681.

Decatur's Tori Gardner (157), Monahans' Talyssa Griner (157) and Randall's Kimber Nunn (166) will move on to state as the three individuals not advancing with teams.

Chloe Doerksen finished 11th individually with a 167 to lead the Seminole contingent. Abby Fortner and Maggie Duncan tied for 16th and Presley Roberts finished 18th.

Aubrey Morin, a solo regional qualifier for Levelland, shot a 207.

Region I-2A

Two area golfers secured their spot at state in the Region I-2A girls golf tournament.

Olton's Kylee Noack finished second individually with a 179 for the two-day tourney. Sudan's Landree Gonzales finished sixth at 193. Because she is one of the top three individuals not part of a top-three team, Gonzales will join Noack at state.

Memphis secured the team title thanks to Maggie Cook and Kionna Matthews winning the other two individual medals. Cook shot a 177 to win gold and Matthews a 181 to take silver.

As a team, Memphis shot a 757 for the title. Wink came in second at 812 and Sonora third at 830.

Region I-1A girls

Borden County claimed the team title in the Region I-1A girls golf tournament behind four individuals placing in the top 20.

Kenzie White led the Lady Coyotes with a 196, good for seventh overall. BK Behrens was 10th, Haley Carpenter 16th and Callie Edwards 18th, guiding Borden County to a two-day score of 826.

Wildorado came in second in the team standings followed by Lazbuddie. Those three teams advanced to state.

Happy's Halee Jo Johnson took the individual title with a 149. The other individual state qualifiers are Grady's Audrey Marler and Springlake-Earth's Taytum Goodman, who finished second and third, respectively.

Region I-1A boys

Wildorado took the team title behind Hunter Corman's individual title in the Region I-1A boys golf tournament.

Springlake-Earth and Borden County tied for second at 737 but the Wolverines won a playoff to take second and the Coyotes third. Both teams are headed to state.

Another playoff hole determined the final individual to earn a spot at state. Petersburg's Alex Colunga defeated Fort Elliott's Race Angeley in sudden death to earn the third spot.

Spur's Preston Prafford took second and Meadow's Taylor Caswell third to earn the other two individual positions.

Duncan tied for 16th and Presley Roberts finished 18th.
