Region unemployment rises in June

Jul. 28—Unemployment rose slightly to begin the summer as the number of jobs being created failed to keep up with the demand for work.

Still, local employment remains far better than during the pandemic two years ago, according to a report issued July 22 by the Texas Workforce Commission.

— Rockwall County's unemployment rate rose to 3.4% in June, up from 2.9% in May. The jobless rate remained well below the 4.9% reported in June 2021.

A total of 2,049 people filed for unemployment in Rockwall County last month, 323 more than during May, but 711 fewer than one year earlier.

There were 57,545 people on the job in the county in June, a record for the month, although 18 fewer than in May. Rockwall County has added 3,866 jobs since June 2021.

Rockwall County's civilian labor force, the total number of people eligible for work, was reported by the Texas Workforce Commission to be 59,594 people during June, 305 more than in May and 3,155 more than in June 2021.

— Hunt County's unemployment rate rose to 4.1% in June, up from 3.5% in May and well below the 5.9% reported in June 2021.

There were 1,927 people seeking employment in Hunt County during June, 304 more than during May, but 3,042 fewer than one year earlier

There were 45,208 people were employed in Hunt County last month, the highest number ever recorded during June. But the total was 36 fewer than in May. The county has added 3,042 jobs since June 2021.

Hunt County's civilian labor force was reported to be 47,135 people during June, 268 more than in May and 2,346 more than in June 2021.
