Regional track roundup: Mason, Pewamo-Westphalia boys and girls capture titles

Connor Williamson set a personal record while winning a pair of events to help the Mason boys track and field team claim a Division 2 regional championship Friday.

Williamson, who entered the meet unbeaten in both the shot put and discus, continued that by taking both events Friday. The senior set a new career-best with a throw of 170 feet in the discus.

Tyler Baker placed first in the 110 hurdles and was the other individual champion for Mason, which finished with 119 points.

The Bulldogs also won the 800 and 3,200 relays.

Battle Creek Harper Creek was the runner-up with 96 points and Olivet finished third with a score of 69.

Charlotte's Landon Cosby, who entered the regional as one of the state's top pole vaulters, won the event with a new personal record of 15-7.

DIVISION 3 AT BATH

Gavin Nurenberg and Corey Schafer were double winners while leading Pewamo-Westphalia to a regional championship Thursday. The Pirates had 164 points, while Lansing Catholic was the runner-up with a score of 74.5.

Nurenberg was the champion in the shot put and discus, while Schafer swept the 110 and 300 hurdles for the Pirates. Collin Farmer was P-W’s other individual champion and won the 3,200.

Other double individual winners at the regional included Perry’s Rease Teel and Potterville’s Carson Brunk. Teel won the 100 and 200 and Brunk finished first in the 800 and 1,600.

DIVISION 1 AT MILFORD

Kellen Reed was a triple individual winner while helping Holt capture a regional championship Friday.

The senior won the 100 and 200 dashes and also was the long jump champion for Holt, which finished with 92.5 points. Holt also won the 400 relay

East Lansing was the runner-up with a score of 81.17.

DIVISION 4 AT COLEMAN

Cavanaugh Barker helped reigning state champion Carson City-Crystal have a dominant showing as it claimed a regional title Saturday. Barker claimed titles in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump for the Eagles, who had a score of 156.5 points. Beal City was the runner-up with 101 points.

Zane Forist was also a double winner for Carson City-Crystal and won the shot put and discus.

Brayden Clark (pole vault), Matthew Emelander (long jump) and Ashton Keiffer (3,200) were other champions for the Eagles.

DIVISION 2 AT WILLIAMSTON

Wyatt Bower and Jaden Herrick won individual events while helping Corunna finish as the runner-up at Friday’s regional. Bower won the long jump and Herrick was the 110 hurdle champion to help the Cavaliers finish with 70.5 points.

Corunna edged Fowlerville by .5 points for second place.

DIVISION 3 AT CHESANING

Behind Parks Allen, Ithaca finished tied for fifth at its regional Friday. Allen won a pair of individual events, taking titles in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs. He also was part of Ithaca’s winning 3,200 relay.

DIVISION 2 AT MASON

Sophomore Riley Gill set a pair of personal records while playing a part in Mason capturing a regional title. Gill set marks in the 100 and 300 hurdles, taking the titles in both events. She had a time of 15.76 in the 100 hurdles and 47.65 in the 300 hurdles.

Meghan Ford was the regional champion in the 1,600 for Mason and was also part of its winning 3,200 relay.

Mason finished with 130 points, while Olivet was the runner-up with a score of 96.

Kennedi Hewitt (100) and Payton Otto (discus) were individual regional champions for Olivet.

DIVISION 3 AT BATH

Saige Martin was a double individual winner while helping Pewamo-Westphalia claim a team regional championship Thursday

Martin won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles for the Pirates, who finished with 144 points. Laingsburg was second with a score of 89 and Lansing Catholic took third with 86.5 points.

Whitney Werner (800), Grace Spitzley (shot put) and Addison Trierweiler (pole vault) were the other individual winners for P-W. The Pirates also won the 800 and 3,200 relays.

Potterville’s Lexis Wheeler, Stockbridge’s Rylee Tolson and Perry’s Anna Nixon were the other double individual winners. Wheeler won the 100 and 200, while Tolson placed first in the 1,600 and 3,200. Nixon was the champion in the discus and long jump.

DIVISION 1 AT MILFORD

Senior Comari Hawkins was a double winner and helped East Lansing claim a regional title Friday. Hawkins won the 200 and 400 to help the Trojans finish with 91 points.

Anna Delgado won the 1,600 and East Lansing won the 400 and 800 relays while finishing 5.5 points ahead of runner-up Howell.

DIVISION 2 AT WILLIAMSTON

Ellie Toney had season-best throws in both the shot put and discus while helping Corunna finish third at Friday’s regional. Toney won both events for the Cavaliers, who had a score of 73. She had a throw of 102-9 in the discus and a career-best toss of 35-10 in the shot put.

Haslett’s Gabriella Dixon and Fowlerville’s Sarah Litz were other double individual winners from the area. Dixon won the 200 and 400, while Litz was the champion in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

DIVISION 4 AT COLEMAN

Grace Epkey and Alayna Vandegriff were individual winners and helped Fowler take the title Saturday. The Eagles had 127 points and finished 17 ahead of runner-up Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.

Epkey set a personal record while winning the 800 in 2:21.13 and was also part of Fowler’s first place 3,200 relay. Vandegriff won the pole vault/

Fulton’s Emily Stinson was a double champion at the region and placed first in the shot put and discus.

DIVISION 3 AT CHESANING

Lani Bloom had a big day while helping Ithaca to a runner-up finish at Friday’s regional.

Bloom was a triple individual winner for the Yellowjackets, who finished with 88.5 points.

Bloom won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 runs and also was part of the winning 3,200 relay.
