Cops are investigating the mysterious death of a registered sex offender at a Brooklyn psychiatric hospital, police said Friday.

Ex-con Shakim Devega, 28, was found unconscious inside the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center on Clarkson Ave. in Prospect Lefferts Gardens at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Devega, a patient at the facility, was rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he died.

Devega died from “sustained trauma to the neck and neck area,” police said. A police statement said the death was “being investigated as a homicide  pending the final determination on the cause of death by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner.”

No arrests had been made as of late Friday.

In 2015, Devega was sentenced to a year in prison on an attempted robbery conviction. He was released in 2016, but was arrested two years later for sexually abusing a 6-year-old boy, police said. He was convicted of attempted sexual abuse in 2019 and was released last year after serving two years behind bars, according to court records.

After his release, his name was added to the state’s sex offender registry and he was moved to the Kingsboro Psychiatric Center.

Detectives were checking surveillance footage inside the psychiatric center Friday in an attempt to determine if, where and when he was attacked.
