Registration begins Tuesday for 31st annual Polk Senior Games

Registration for the 31st annual Polk Senior Games opens Tuesday.

The games are scheduled for Feb. 24 through March 9, offering a series of 97 Olympic-style events in 38 athletic and recreational sports. The competition attracts more than 2,100 men and women ages 50 and older, the Polk Senior Games said in a news release.

Competitions will be at various locations throughout Polk County in such sports as archery, shooting, basketball, billiards, bowling, chess, cribbage, dancing, darts, field events, fishing, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, powerlifting, running, Scrabble, shooting, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, tennis, track and walking. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in each event and age division.

The individual entry fee is $12 for the first event and $5 for each additional event up to a maximum of $37. Fees for team sports are $150 for softball, $60 for 3-on-3 basketball and $48 for team bowling. There are also facility fees for golf, archery, pickleball, shooting and bowling. Entries must be received by Feb. 19. All entrants receive a T-shirt.
