Registration deadline approaching for Jeannette Salvation Army Back-to-School Bash

Jul. 29—The registration deadline is Monday for the Jeannette Salvation Army's Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 14.

Commanding officer Major Lori Brown said families of students that register can get a bunch of free goodies to help them prepare for the 2021-22 school year. She said hopes the event will "lessen the burden of having to worry about extra money for school supplies and even a coat."

Students must live in Jeannette, Grapeville, Harrison City, Penn Borough or Claridge to attend the bash at the Jeannette Salvation Army. There are no income guidelines, but participants must bring proof of their address, Brown said.

They'll be doing a uniform exchange for students who have to wear uniforms to school. Parents will be able to choose new sizes and turn in their child's old uniform.

Other donated clothing will be available for students who don't have to wear uniforms, Brown said. Winter coats will be available. Each school-age child will get a backpack and other school supplies.

"We have some donors that have given us supplies and are bringing us some supplies," she said.

Those donors include Eastern Gas Transmission & Storage and the Jeannette Business Association.

The event will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 14 and there will be food and refreshments. Families can register at 724-523-3120 by leaving a voicemail with the information. The bash will be held inside in case of rain.
