Registration open for Island Youth Lacrosse teams playing in the spring

Boys and girls in kindergarten to eighth grade who live or go to school in Newport or Middletown are eligible to sign up for spring youth lacrosse at islandlax.org.

Island Youth Lacrosse spring practices start in late March, with opening games — all of which will be played Saturdays — slated for April 9. Teams play at least eight regular-season games with season-ending tournaments taking place June 18.

Pre-K and kindergarteners will practice once a week. First- and second-grade squads will practice once or twice a week, while third- to eighth-grade teams will practice twice a week. All practices will take place on the fields beside Gaudet Middle School, with parking available in the front lot of the school off Aquidneck Avenue.

Registration fees are $110 for kindergarteners, first- and second-graders, and $160 for third- to eighth-graders. An early registration (until Jan. 31) fee of $140 is being offered for the third- to eighth-graders.

A participant’s USA Lacrosse membership must be current in order to register for Island Youth Lacrosse. The registration process at the IYL site will bump you to the USA Lacrosse site if you need to update your membership.

There will be a maximum of 20 players per team and others will be placed on a waiting list with the hope enough players register to fill a second team. Based on past registration numbers, teams fill up fast so early registration is suggested.

Island Youth Lacrosse is always in need of coaches so please email director@islandlax.org if you have an interest or know of anyone else in the community who might.
