Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Clerk and Comptroller Stacy Butterfield is preparing for the ninth annual Valentine's Day group marriage ceremony.
The ceremony will take place at noon on the steps of the Polk County History Center.
“Planning a wedding can be a stressful thing for couples, and the past few years have hindered many couples’ wedding plans. This Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate love without the stress or expense of planning a wedding,” said Butterfield. “All the couples have to do is show up and get married. We handle the paperwork and the planning, and they are free to enjoy their special day together.”
Couples may register when applying for a marriage license at either of the three clerk’s offices at Bartow Courthouse, Lakeland Government Center or the Northeast Government Center in Winter Haven. However, the clerk’s office says couples need to submit the first part of the marriage license application before visiting any of the three offices.
Registration is first come, first served and limited to 30 couples. To participate couples must apply for a marriage license by Feb. 10.
Both individuals need to be present with a valid photo ID and know their Social Security numbers to finalize their marriage license. The clerk’s office is waiving the $30 ceremony fee but standard marriage license fees do apply.
For more information or to register, call the Official Records Department at 863-534-4516 or visit the Clerk’s office online at www.polkcountyclerk.net.
