Registration opens for The Salvation Army's Toy & Joy Shop

Nov. 6—ROCHESTER — The Salvation Army has opened registration for families needing support providing Christmas presents for their children.

The application to receive assistance from the Toy & Joy Shop on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21 is available online at

rochestersa.org

.

During the Toy & Joy Shop, parents and guardians of children 16 and younger are guided through The Salvation Army's display of all new gifts donated through the Walmart Angel Trees, Walmart's online Spark Good toy registry, and the Sharing Tree in the Apache Mall. Families are able to choose gifts for each child in their household with the help of dozens of community volunteers.

"We truly believe that it is so important for children to wake up to a present under the tree on Christmas morning, especially the older children," Major Candace Voeller, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army, said in a statement announcing the open registration. "They understand why they have less than their peers if they go to school on Dec. 27 without a Christmas present to talk about and share. We want them to feel as special as everyone else."

The Salvation Army asks that anyone interested in donating Christmas gifts for the Toy & Joy Shop do so before the event begins on Dec. 20. Gifts received after Dec. 21 will have arrived too late to be distributed to families through this event.
