Registration still open for Oshkosh YMCA's Century Bike Ride and Family Ride, and more news in weekly dose
OSHKOSH - The Oshkosh Community YMCA will host the second annual Oshkosh Century Bike Ride and Family Ride June 25. All routes start and end at the 20th Avenue facility.
Riders of all abilities can choose from four scenic routes, 30, 50, 62 or 100 miles. There will be support vehicles and rest stops where restrooms, food, water and mechanical support will be available. Following the ride, participants can enjoy a catered meal.
Families can take the 6-mile route through residential neighborhoods, ending with an ice cream treat.

▶ Miss Wisconsin delegates to arrive in Oshkosh June 19: The 2023 class of Miss Wisconsin delegates from around the state will be welcomed into Oshkosh during a special arrival ceremony June 19.
There will be several events held this week in conjunction with the Miss Wisconsin Scholarship Competition, ending with the final competition June 24.
Contestants will arrive at Opera House Square in downtown Oshkosh between 4:15 and 4:55 p.m., via the Oshkosh Pedal Trolley. A meet-and-greet will follow with the official ceremony getting under way at 5 p.m.
In addition to introducing the contestants, the ceremony will feature Miss Wisconsin Teen 2022 and Miss Wisconsin 2022 and other representatives from the Miss Wisconsin organization.
▶ Freemasons honor members buried at Lake View Memorial Park: The Oshkosh Freemasons, in conjunction with Saint John the Baptist Day, June 24, will honor the Masons buried in Lake View Memorial Park with Masonic flags at their gravestones. St. John the Baptist is one of the patron saints of Freemasonry.
The flags were placed June 11 and will be removed June 25.
Oshkosh Lodge No. 27 will mark its 175th anniversary in 2024. The group was involved in the formation and growth of the city of Oshkosh and continues to be relevant today.

▶ Dance session, science of heat program offered by Oshkosh library: The Oshkosh Public Library, 106 Washington Ave., will host several programs this week.
June 23, youth can participate in a Jazz Hip Hop Dance session. Children ages 9-12 begin at 10 a.m. while ages 5-8 start at 10:30 a.m.
Later that day, a Tween S.T.E.A.M. session on the “Science of Heat” will begin at 4:30 p.m. It is geared toward youth ages 9-12.
The Stay and Play Saturday session will run 10 a.m. to noon June 24. The theme is “Say Hello to Summer.”
▶ Bell ringers featured in June 24 Peniel Chapel concert: Bell ringers from Fond du Lac Covenant United Methodist Church will be part of a concert at 6 p.m. June 24 at Peniel Welsh Chapel, W9644 Zoar Road, Oshkosh.
Thomas White will direct the concert, which includes the bells, piano, reed organ and congregational singing. Free will offerings will be accepted. An ice cream social will follow.

▶ 'Healthy Little Monsters' program focuses on healthy eating, germs: Nutritional Healing and The Chiropractic Advantage will host a “Healthy Little Monsters” event at 9 a.m. June 28 at the Oshkosh Community YMCA, downtown site at 324 Washington Ave. Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Kimberly Stoeger, owner of Nutritional Healing, will cover healthy eating options while Dr. Brent Buss, co-owner of Chiropractic Advantage, will offer information about germs, both good and bad.
Also included will be a reading of Dr. Buss’ book, “The Monsters Inside of Me,” a healthy snack-building activity, a movement game, a kids' craft station, multiple gift giveaways and more.
▶ Winnebago County contributes to record-breaking tourism in 2022: According to data released by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism for 2022, Winnebago County contributed $522 million in a record-breaking $23.7 billion in total economic impact generated by the tourism industry statewide.
The 2022 total surpassed the previous record, set in 2019, of $22.2 billion.
Winnebago County also surpassed its previous $509 million record, also set in 2019.
A news release from the Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau stated that last year, Winnebago County tourism supported 4,177 part-time and full-time jobs across various sectors of the industry and generated $30 million in local tax revenue.
Statewide, tourism generated $1.5 billion in state and local tax revenue.
In 2022, there were 111.1 million visits in Wisconsin, which was up 8.8 million visits, or 8.7%, over the previous year. This includes a record 45.4 million overnight visits, or a 13.8% increase from 2021. Overnight visitors, on average, spent nearly three times as much as day trip visitors.
