Reid Health displays Richmond artist Deborah Cole's works

RICHMOND, Ind. — Artwork by Richmond's Deborah Cole is being displayed at Reid Health.

The exhibit in the hospital's MacDowell Gallery will continue through September, according to a news release.

Cole works in pastels and specializes in pet portraits and landscapes. Her works offer a sentimental appeal to viewers with a slightly impressionistic aspect rather than photo realism.

“Painting with pastels has always given me fulfillment in creating my interpretation of God's handiwork," Cole said about her work. "Though I have drawn since a small child, epilepsy sometimes hindered me. I was blessed with having brain surgery at the IN Med Center when I was 35 years old. Since that time, the creative right side of my brain has truly compensated."Cole, who has a bachelor's degree from Ball State University, has studied under Charlene George, Carol Strock Wasson and Mary Ann Davis. She has also participated with Richmond Plein Air Artists and has done freelance pet portraiture since 2015.

Cole's pieces have been shown at the Piqua Arts Council in Piqua, Ohio; the Darke County Fair in Greenville, Ohio; the Art Association of Randolph County in Union City; and the Richmond Art Museum, where she has earned purchase and merit awards.

Most of the pieces exhibited at Reid are for sale.
