Are Yung Miami and Diddy the new relationship goals with their open relationship (or, if you prefer, “situationship”)?
“Caresha Please” is REVOLT’s newest talk show starring City Girls rapper Yung Miami. During the premiere episode, she sat down with her rumored boyfriend, Diddy, to answer the question we’ve all been asking. Yes, the two are dating. Well, actually, no, they’re not.
Diddy explained that even though he considers himself single, he has an interesting relationship with Yung Miami. “We date. We’re dating. We go have dates. We’re friends. We go to exotic locations. We have great times. We go to strip clubs, church.”
Social Media’s Reaction To Their Open Relationship
Social media went wild after hearing the two confirm what many had already been speculating. In fact, REVOLT reported to Blavity that the episode generated more than one billion impressions on social media. And even though their relationship was kind of an open secret, the news was still shocking to fans.
Many fans were excited to hear about the new “couple,” as they posted their opinions all over social media. Some fans took to Twitter to post their funniest takes about the news, while others vented their frustrations with the current dating scene.

But, the celebrity couple isn’t the first or last to do it. Alternative relationships have always been a thing. It’s just that nowadays, people are becoming more open to the idea of nontraditional ways of dating. If you think that Diddy and Yung Miami are relationship goals and want to try a similar arrangement for yourself, there are some things to consider for it to be successful. Here are five ways to make a situationship work for you:
Define The Relationship
When people think of situationships, the word “messy” tends to come to mind. But they don’t have to be. A situationship is more likely to be filled with drama when it’s not clearly defined for what it is.
It can be nerve-wracking to share your ideas for an alternative relationship with the person you’re dating. Traditional monogamous relationships are still the norm, and many people are not comfortable with being in anything other than a committed relationship.
When discussing a situationship, all parties involved must consent to be part of it and accept the territory that it comes with. Also, clearly defining what the relationship should look like can help avoid feelings of jealousy and resentment. Some questions to consider include:
Are we defining the relationship with boyfriend and girlfriend titles or simply calling each other friends?
What are the sexual boundaries when it comes to intimacy with other people?
What is the end goal of the situationship?
Will holidays such as Valentine’s Day or birthdays be spent together?
How many partners can we have outside of the relationship?
Check In Regularly
Situationships are intended to be carefree and fun, but they can often become frustrating when things don’t go as planned. Perhaps your needs aren’t being met, or your partner is overstepping boundaries. Whatever the case, it’s essential to have regular check-ins with your partner to ensure that you’re both on the same page.
Making time to discuss the relationship is a good way to guarantee that you’re both satisfied with the arrangement. If your partner decides to step away from the situationship, it’s important to respect their decision. Sitautionships aren’t for everyone, but you can make it work by regularly communicating how you feel to each other.
Be Honest With Yourself
Navigating an alternative relationship can be challenging, especially if it’s your first time in one. Implementing clearly defined boundaries ahead of time can help make the relationship a lot easier, but sometimes feelings can still get in the way.
It’s okay to realize that a situationship is not for you. They’re not for a lot of people, which is why they aren’t commonly sought after. Because of this, it’s important to be honest with yourself about your feelings regarding your relationship. If you’re unhappy, it’s okay to walk away. In fact, it’s better to call it off than to waste time in a situationship that isn’t satisfying your needs.
Make Sure Your Needs Are Being Met
As women, we’re often pressured to be polite and not step on anyone’s toes, even at our own expense. But when it comes to dating, it’s important to assert yourself by clearly outlining your needs and expectations.
Perhaps you want to see your partner on a weekly basis, but that isn’t happening. Or maybe your partner wants to bring another person into the relationship, but you aren’t comfortable with that. No matter the case, you should never compromise your standards and expectations, even outside of a monogamous relationship.
If your partner isn’t meeting your needs or you’re unhappy with the state of the relationship, it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge that and move on.
Don't Worry About The Naysayers
Sometimes the hardest part about being in an alternative relationship is dealing with the opinions of others. It can seem like the people who have the most to say about your situationship are those who aren’t in it.
Explaining your situationship to close friends and family members can be challenging. But it’s important to note that in most cases, your loved ones are just looking out for you. If you feel comfortable, you can talk to your loved ones about your relationship. Just letting them know that you’re content where you are can help ease their worries that you’re being taken advantage of or compromising your happiness.
But if your loved ones or even strangers pass judgment, you don’t owe them an explanation for how you choose to date. Just ignore them and move on because, as the saying goes, “What’s understood doesn’t need to be explained.”
