Relatives, friends cry at funeral of Ukrainian soldier

STORY: Karim Gulamov would have turned 35 years old on July 26. But on July 17, a car Gulamov was in blew up on an anti-tank mine in southern Ukraine.

Locals kneeled as soldiers carried Gulamov’s coffin, covered with the Ukrainian flag.

The memorial service then went on to St. Michael's cathedral where Kyiv residents came to pay tribute to Gulamov.

The Russian invasion that began on Feb. 24 has destroyed cities, killed thousands and sent millions fleeing. Russia says it is pursuing a "special military operation" to rid Ukraine of dangerous nationalists. Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of an unprovoked, imperial-style land grab.
