Relative's tip leads to driver's arrest following pursuit in Monroe County

IDA TWP. — A tip about a man who was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs led to his arrest Thursday night after he led Monroe County sheriff's deputies on a pursuit.

At 9:40 p.m., Monroe County Central Dispatch received the call about the 68-year-old driver, who was in Whiteford Township and being followed by the caller, a news release from the sheriff's office said. The caller, who is a relative of the suspect, provided location updates while deputy sheriffs responded to the area. Deputy Christine Ost intercepted the vehicle near the intersection of Secor and Ida Center roads, but the suspect refused to pull over when a traffic stop was attempted.

The suspect fled through southern Ida Township and struck several sets of tire deflation devices that had been deployed by assisting deputies, the release said. The suspect was taken into custody after pulling over on Crabb Road, south of Erie Road, in Bedford Township.
