After release, Melvin Gordon says farewell to Broncos fans with an O.J. Simpson meme

One year ago today, the Denver Broncos had a 5-5 record and had hopes of making the playoffs. But a 2-5 finish to the season kept the Broncos out of the postseason field.

Realizing something needed to change, the Broncos traded for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and expectations were high in Denver this season.

Instead of a return to the postseason, the Broncos have a worse record through 10 games than a year ago. They’re 3-7 and coming off a home loss to the Raiders in Denver.

In that game, Denver running back Melvin Gordon III fumbled on the Las Vegas 3-yard-line and while the Broncos recovered, they had to kick a field goal. That cost the Broncos four points and they lost in overtime.

That fumble also cost Gordon his job as he was cut by the Broncos this week. And it should be noted that was his fifth fumble of the season, so he wasn’t cast aside for that one mistake.

Gordon bade farewell to the Broncos and his now former teammates with an Instagram post. He shared a photo of himself with Patrick Surtain III and wrote: “ Made some relationships there imma hold dear forever. Dam imma miss y’all boys. It was an honor y’all were great teammates but even better men.”

That’s a pretty straightforward farewell. Gordon didn’t mention Broncos fans in that post, but he did share mention Denver supporters in an Instagram story.

It wasn’t quite what you might expect. There was a photo of Gordon behind the wheel of the infamous white Bronco that carried O.J. Simpson in 1994.

Gordon wrote: “Boy y’all fans was hell lmfaooo. Thank y’all too broncos country. Let’s at least laugh on the way out.”

Those Instagram story posts can’t be embedded, but people did share it on Twitter, so here is a look.
