A Wauwatosa Catholic church expects a relic of St. Jude to draw thousands of visitors in September.

The relic, which is St. Jude's forearm, is on a national tour. It will make a stop Sept. 17 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 734 Glenview Ave., Wauwatosa.

St. Jude, also known as Jude Thaddeus or Judas Thaddeus, is considered the patron saint of hopeless or difficult causes. He was one of Jesus' 12 apostles, according to biblical tradition.

A Mass at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 will be followed by an opportunity to view and venerate the relic 3 to 10 p.m.

The relic is held in Rome in the church of San Salvatore in Lauro.

“We are enthusiastic not only for the opportunity to host the major relics of St. Jude in our own parish, but for the opportunity to extend hospitality to the many people we expect to make pilgrimage here," said the Rev. Justin Weber, administrator of the Wauwatosa church, in a statement.

Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the permanent home of the relic.
