The thrills of watching a drive-in movie double feature in days gone by will be revived at 7 p.m. Friday, July 22 as the Capitol Arts Complex in Rome presents the 1950s classics "Revenge of the Creature" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" inside the Capitol Theatre.

Returning after a three year hiatus, the Capitol’s beloved Drive-In Night Double Feature is back with what theater management describes as “two incredible sci-fi classics reminiscent of the kinds of things you’d see at a good ol’ drive-in cinema.”

"The Day the Earth Stood Still" was seen in drive-ins back in 1951. A UFO lands in Washington, D.C. and Klaatu (Michael Rennie) announces he has come on behalf of alien life, who have been watching the Cold War-era nuclear proliferation on Earth. But it is Klaatu’s silent robot, Gort, that presents a more immediate and ominous threat to Earthlings.

After a short intermission, moviegoers will find out what happens to the Gill-Man from the original 1954 "Creature from the Black Lagoon" movie after he is captured by men and made into an aquarium attraction in the 1955 sequel "Revenge of the Creature."

Both movies are not rated and are suitable for all audiences, though each contains intense scenes that may be frightening for some children.

Drive-in-style food, coming attraction trailers and snipes will add to the fun of the nostalgic double feature.

The Capitol Arts Complex is at 220 West Dominick St. in Rome. For more information or tickets for any of their programming, visit romecapitol.com.
