Bobby Bowden, who built Florida State University's football program into a national power and coached there for more than three decades, won admiration off the field for a humble, humorous personality unlike almost any football coach in history. He dazzled the media with his candor and self-deprecating jokes. He endeared himself to the public with his Southern charm and religious devotion.
He won the affection of his players with his loyalty and penchant for giving erring players second and third chances.
Here is a collection of stories, photos and columns of the coach, husband, father and revered Tallahassee resident who died Sunday, Aug. 8 at age 91.

When Bobby Bowden met Yankees legend Yogi Berra
Bowden always wanted to meet the Yankees skipper.
Yogi Berra was the New York Yankees manager in 1985 when his team played FSU in a baseball exhibition at Howser Stadium (then known as Seminole Stadium).
“Those two talked for about an hour and I Iiked to have about passed out (in laughter),” said Hootie Ingram, Florida State’s athletics director at the time.
“It was so funny to sit there and listen to those two.”
