Remembering Phylicia Thomas 20 years later

NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — 20 years ago on February 11 was the last time anyone saw or heard from Phylicia Thomas.

Her family hosted a vigil in her honor and they have continued hope someone watching will have information about her disappearance

The vigil in Nanticoke was a small gathering at a memorial garden for the Phylicia. Friends and family have gathered every year with the same hope of finding answers.

Phylicia Thomas went missing on February 11th, 2004 never returning home from work.

Her family and friends are still hoping that questions will be answered about her disappearance.

Outside her mother’s home in Nanticoke sits a memorial.

“Everybody got together and made it just for her, so we can all just come here and sit at times and talk to her because we just miss her so much,” said Pauline Bailey Phylicia’s mother.

Family and friends sang and prayed by a special tree planted in her memory on Sunday evening.

“A lady from a different state sent us a beautiful tree. it’s a sugar maple tree in memory of her daughter who was murdered by her husband, they sent it to us to put here, for phylicia. it’s called Phylicia’s Tree of Life,” says Judy Lorah Fisher a friend of the family.

The disappearance of Phylicia Thomas has touched many lives in northeast PA.

The house is filled with pictures and paintings of Phylicia Thomas and some of those paintings were created by close friends of the family.

“I saw a picture of Phylicia Thomas and I just felt bad and I felt that I should do something so I took the picture out of the newspaper and I painted the portrait of Phylicia Thomas,” added Kevin Ryan a family friend.

The family continues to plea for tips from anybody to help them discover what happened that night 20 years ago.

“I’m never going to give up, if there’s anybody that knows anything please tell us you don’t have to tell us who you are nothing just tell us where she could possibly be that we could find her,” explained Phylicia’s mother.
