Reminder: Friday is last day to appeal home appraisals

Many Lubbock-area homeowners saw an increase in appraised market value when they received their 2023 property appraisals earlier this month, and the deadlines for protesting those appraisals in Lubbock County are quickly approaching.

Property owners have until 5 p.m. Friday, April 28, to file an informal inquiry into their appraisals. Those can be submitted by calling 806-762-5000 ext. 5, emailing info@lubbockcad.org or in-person at the Lubbock Central Appraisal District, 2109 Ave. Q. In each case, the property owner will provide the owner name, property address or quick reference number with any supporting documentation or evidence as to why the market value of the property is incorrect.

An appraiser will be assigned to review the informal inquiry and respond within seven business days, LCAD says. If the informal inquiry does not resolve the issue, homeowners can file a formal protest. Those are due by the deadline printed on the appraisal notice.

Property owners can file a formal protest by mailing the protest form to P.O. Box 10542, Lubbock, TX 79408; emailing the form to info@lubbockcad.org or delivering them to 2109 Ave. Q. A drop box is available at the LCAD office for after-hours submissions.

Formal protests can also be submitted online, but not if an informal inquiry has already been filed. Online protests are filed by searching the property information at lubbockcad.org, clicking the "protest" icon and following the prompts.
