Reminder: Smith County property taxes due

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Smith County property taxes are due on the last day of January, officials shared what you need to know about them.

What to know about your home’s property tax valuation

Smith County sent out a reminder on Friday about Smith County property taxes being due. They said that the payments can be paid online or in-person, but told in-person payers to expect long lines and wait times.

According to the release, the Smith County Tax Office mailed out 213,369 property tax statements in November. However, if someone did not receive theirs Barber said they could contact the office 903-590-2920 or get their statement online.

The county said that tax payers are encouraged to use the website to their bills with debit, credit or eCheck, alternatively taxes can be paid via drop off or by mail.

The drop off box is located on the Glenwood Boulevard side of the Cotton Belt Building and drop off payers are asked to leave their contact information in the envelope in case of any complications with the payment.

Smith County Tax Assessor-Collector Gary Barber said his office does take partial payments, and he encourages people to pay what they can, when they can since late fees are only added to the balance due.

According to the county, once late a 7% penalty is added to the remaining balance, with an additional 2% being added each month. They also said that any balance left unpaid by July first will have a total of 33% penalty added to the account.

The Tax Office in the Cotton Belt Building is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Property tax payments can also be made in person at the Tax Office Substations, at 2616 S. Main St. in Lindale and in Noonday at 15405 Highway 155 South.
