Reminderville buys fitness center equipment

The city will spend $29,990 to upgrade its fitness equipment at the Reminderville Athletic Club.

The equipment includes two StarTrac 8 series upright bikes, two StarTrac 8 series recumbent bikes, a Stairmaster 10 series Gauntlet, an Octane recumbent elliptical and an Octane Lateral X trainer.

Delivery and installation will cost $1,800. One StarTrac upright, two StarTrac recumbent bikes and one Stairmaster Gauntlet will be traded in.

Meanwhile, Council accepted funding from two organizations at its Feb. 14 session, including the 2023 Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council’s energized community grant of $11,816. It is used for projects to improve energy efficiency.

Also accepted were a 2023 community event sponsorship grant of $1,500 from NOPEC and a ReWorks community recycling assistance grant of $4,230.

Council also took the following action at its Feb. 14 and 28 sessions:

• Accepted the resignation of James Crevar from the fire department effective Feb. 3.

• Hired John Blust and Adam Nunns as part-time police officers on probation at a rate of $25.30 per hour, and David Williams, Nathan Guardado and Jayce Baldwin as front desk associates at the Reminderville Athletic Club at a rate of $10.10 per hour.

• Authorized the city to join the Community University Education Purchasing Council of Governments to secure the best prices on goods and services.

• Recognized March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

• Authorized the mayor to enter into the annual memorandum of understanding with Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners Inc. The agency helps the city manage stormwater and natural resources, and provides assistance in the areas of community engagement, grant writing and expert consultation; and advocates conservation and restoration of habitats in the Tinkers Creek watershed.

• Authorized participation in and accepted the terms of Ohio’s proposed opioid settlements against pharmaceutical manufacturers Teva and Allergan and pharmacies CVS, Walgreen’s and Walmart.

• Appointed Brandon Board to the long-term community development committee.

• Adjusted the 2023 appropriations to add $5,500 to the general fund, $15,000 to the streets construction, repair and maintenance fund, $30,000 to the VR JEDD fund and $16,391 to the revenues total.

Community garden registration starting soon

In other Reminderville news, community garden registration for 2023 is March 13 through 24 for returning gardeners, and starts April 3 for first-time gardeners.

Plot maps and reservation forms will be available at Town Hall or online at www.reminderville.com under the “for residents” tab. Forms and plot fees should be turned in at Town Hall weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There are 52, 10-by-10-foot plots available for $10 each. The community garden is next to the police station at 3602 Glenwood Blvd.

Other business

Reminderville’s family storytime with the Twinsburg Public Library runs through April 28 on Fridays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Heritage Hall, 3601 Glenwood Blvd. The bookmobile will be there for checkout of items, and participants should bring their library cards.

The village’s communication committee will meet March 8 at 7 p.m. This month's Council meetings are on March 14 and 28 at 7 p.m. A long-term community development meeting is March 15 at 6:30 p.m. and the architectural board of review will gather March 27 at 6:30 p.m.
