WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — West Lafayette police saw Austin Dean Schultz driving north on U.S. 231 near Cumberland Avenue about 3 p.m. Monday, and attempted to stop him because he was suspected of thefts in the city.

Schultz ignored police and continued to drive, tossing what police suspect was a bag of meth from his car window, according to West Lafayette police.

Schultz turned eastbound onto Sagamore Parkway West, then led officers on a chase north on Morehouse Road before officers stopped the pursuit.

An Indiana State Police trooper stopped Schultz, 29, later Monday at a convenience store at Interstate 65 and U.S. 24, according to West Lafayette police.

Schultz was returned to West Lafayette, where he was suspected of two thefts.

A search warrant for Schultz's Remington home turned up power tools stolen Saturday from the West Lafayette Ace Hardware store. Schultz's car also had a license plate on it that had been stolen from a car parked at a West Lafayette apartment complex, police said.

Police booked Schultz into the Tippecanoe County Jail on suspicion of possession of meth, resisting law enforcement and theft. He remained incarcerated on Tuesday morning.
