Remote learning day for Dare County students

DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Dare County students will have a remote learning day Tuesday due to anticipated inclement weather, the school division said.

Students will get instructions from their teachers regarding expectations for the school day.

The current forecast calls for adverse weather conditions Monday night into Tuesday, with minor to moderate coastal flooding projected from the northern Outer Banks to Frisco on the Soundside. The region can expect sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts reaching 45 mph to 50 mph on the northern beaches, and 50 to 60 mph on Hatteras Island.

It said flood inundation estimates of one to four feet are in the forecast between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday. It said that while it may be possible to take students to school in the morning, potential floodwaters and high winds in the afternoon could make it problematic to get kids home safely.
