Renfro Road gun shop owner indicted by federal grand jury

Nov. 16—Bakersfield resident Joshua Ruic Kimball, 40, was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday on firearms trafficking and other charges, according to U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert.

The owner of Show Off Sports LLC on Renfro Road, who was arrested Nov. 1, is accused of selling firearms illegally, including short-barrel rifles and silencers, without requiring background checks, firearms registration or any paperwork for sales.

An investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, together with the Fresno Police Department, traced more than 100 firearms used in crimes in the Western U.S. and Mexico back to Kimball, according to a news release from Talbert's office.

Kimball was charged with trafficking in firearms, unlawful transfer of firearms in violation of the National Firearms Act and unlawful transfer of firearms in violation of state law.

He faces up to 15 years in prison for alleged trafficking, plus 10 years for unlawful transfers and a fine of $250,000 for each count.
