Renowned filmmaker Spike Lee is delivering this year’s Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The event, to be held in the school’s Lyman Center, is titled “That’s My Story & I’m Sticking to It,” the same title Lee gave his 2005 autobiography. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by Siobhan Carter-David, an SCSU associate professor of history and women’s and gender studies.

Lee will be meeting with SCSU students and others at a private gathering prior to the Lyman Center. Groups invited to meet with Lee include officers from the school’s Black Student Union and students from two New Haven arts high school programs: the Educational Center for the Arts and Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School.

Spike Lee’s most recent films include documentaries on the Nike shoe company and the 20th anniversary of 9/11, a concert film of David Byrne’s Broadway show “American Utopia” and the epic drama ” Da 5 Bloods.” His career began spectacularly in 1986 with “She’s Gotta Have It,” which was adapted into a TV series in 2017. Lee won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019 for “BlacKkKlansman.” He was nominated for Best Original Screenplay for 1989’s “Do the Right Thing” and for Best Documentary for 1997’s “4 Little Girls.” Lee also received an Honorary Academy Award in 2015.

Lee has made appearances in Connecticut numerous times over the past decades, including at Yale and at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven.
