To Rent a Villa on Richard Branson's Moskito Island, You Can Expect to Dish Out at Least $17,500

For years, the Richard Branson-owned Necker Island, a 74-acre oasis located in the British Virgin Islands, played host to a who's who of dignitaries, celebrities and other VIPs. Among the luminaries who've spent time on the lush island are Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey, the late Nelson Mandela and the Obama family.

Thankfully, with Branson's latest purchase — Moskito Island — the general public will soon have a chance to vacation on one of the billionaire's islands. Architectural Digest reports that Moskito Island is just two miles away from Necker Island, and will include 10 private estates. Three of the 10 private estates will be available to rent beginning on October 1st.

“The British Virgin Islands have been a love of mine ever since I first visited," said Branson while speaking with Architectural Digest. "When I heard Moskito Island was available for sale, there were whispers of plans for a large hotel to be built on the island, and it just would have been such a shame to spoil the incredible landscape. The opportunity arose to purchase Moskito Island, and we set about making plans to ensure its natural beauty was maintained and to develop it with others who love the BVI as much as I do."

Among the villas that will be available to rent in October are The Oasis Estate, The Point Estate and The Branson Estate. The cheaper option of the three villas, The Point Estate, can be rented for $20,500 per night (this decreases to $17,500 per night during low season). The Point Estate has seven rooms that can accommodate up to 14 guests. It is described as a "real beach lover's paradise" by estate manager, Courtney Atkinson.
