Renting in Charlotte? Where you can find the most and least apartment space for $1,700

Charlotte has become a hot spot for new renters moving to North Carolina. But apartment space can vary drastically between different parts of the city, even at the same price.

In a recent report, RentCafe analyzed how much the national average rent of $1,700 stretches in apartment size across the biggest cities in the U.S.

“So, how does a $1,700 budget pan out in the 50 largest U.S. cities? On average, it translates to an apartment of about 944 square feet, but this number varies widely across regions,” the report says. “In the competitive world of apartment rentals, the Southern United States stands out for offering some of the most spacious options within a budget of $1,700.”

With the same monthly budget, apartment space in the metros also varied by zip code, including Charlotte. Here’s a breakdown of which parts of the area offer the most and least amount of space for renters for $1,700.

Most space: According to the report, renters can get the most amount of space in 28134, in Pineville, of 1,174 square feet.

Least space: But you’ll get the least amount of space, almost half of that, closer to uptown Charlotte, in zip code 28203 with only 660 square feet.

“Out of the 25 Charlotte zip codes we analyzed, 19 offer more space for $1,700 compared to the national average,” a spokesperson for RentCafe told The Charlotte Observer. “Nationwide, renters can expect around 950 square feet of apartment space for this amount in America’s 50 largest cities.”

For this report, RentCafe analyzed apartment space in 1,665 zip codes across the 50 largest cities in the U.S.

Overall, zip codes in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas offered the most space for $1,700 in comparison to other areas across the country, and zip codes in New York offered the least amount of space for that same budget.
