The cause of the condition is usually a dog coming into contact with infected poop. Additionally, a dog can become infected by breathing in airborne virus particles.

Treatments for Reovirus Infections in Dogs

Firstly, your vet will ask about your dog’s symptoms. Secondly, your vet will ask about any circumstances where your dog could have become infected.

Thirdly, blood and urine tests will be taken. The results of these can help rule out other infections. Additionally, your dog’s poop can be tested.

Generally, treatment focusses on keeping your dog hydrated. However, if there are any secondary symptoms, your vet can prescribe medicine for them.

As always, if your vet prescribes your dog any medicine, make sure to stick to the correct dose and frequency instructions. Also, complete the full course of medicine.

Finally, it is vital that you keep any infected dogs away from other dogs. This is to avoid spreading the infection, especially as it spreads through the air.
