AOC tests positive for Covid as omicron wave sweeps through Congress
WASHINGTON — The number of Covid cases in Congress is surging as lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announce test results amid the omicron wave hitting the United States.
Four members of Congress revealed Monday they had recently tested positive for the coronavirus. That came on the heels of five others saying the same since Friday afternoon, including Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., whose office said she "is experiencing symptoms and recovering at home.”
Monday's announcements came from Reps. John Katko, R-N.Y., Ben Cline, R-Va., Rick Crawford, R-Ark. and Nancy Mace, R-S.C.
Mace said in a tweet that this was her second time testing positive for Covid, and that she was "feeling ok." She added that she's been vaccinated.
Over the weekend, positive test results were revealed by Ocasio-Cortez and Reps. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., Sean Casten, D-Ill., and Young Kim, R-Calif. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, announced his results on Friday afternoon.
Numerous members of Congress have said they had contracted Covid in recent weeks. The disclosures come as the nation confronts record case counts driven by the omicron variant, which is infecting many who have already received a two-dose vaccine and booster shot. Still, the vaccine has been shown to significantly lower the odds of hospitalization from the coronavirus.
