On Tuesday, Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) joined The Recount Senior Political Producer Steve Morris on Instagram Live. Here’s some of what the congressman shared:

“There’s been a lot of discussion about, ‘was it a raid?’ ‘has it ever been done before?’ And I think people are missing the most important point, is that a President of the United States took documents home, they were in a place that was not secure and that presents a real danger. To me, there's a reason that we prohibit classified materials from leaving secure places is because exposing them can pose a real danger to our ability to collect information. In the future that's necessary to protect the safety and security of this country and the American people. Or can actually put individuals, who are already risking their lives to collect that information, in danger. This is deadly serious. And the idea that there's all this discussion about, ‘he declassified everything before he took it home’ and then it's like ‘the FBI planted this’ and all these cockamamie ideas, I think, to distract from the very serious conduct or misconduct of the President of the United States, and bringing those documents to Mar-a-Lago, where they could be exposed to, God knows who, so this is. very, very serious.
