Incumbent Republican Rep. Paul Gosar is seeking reelection with no opposition in Arizona's 9th Congressional District.

After the approval of the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission's final map, the state's congressional districts will look different this election cycle. Arizona's new 9th Congressional District covers most of the state's western border, covering parts of La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave and Yuma counties.

As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, members of Congress serve two-year terms with no term limits.

Here is a primer on Republican candidate, Paul Gosar, R-Ariz.:

Gosar was elected to Congress in 2010, representing what was then northern Arizona's 1st Congressional District, where he served one term.

After redistricting, Gosar ran and won to represent Arizona's 4th Congressional District in 2012. Before winning public office, Gosar practiced dentistry for 25 years.

Announcing on his campaign Facebook page that he will now be running for Arizona's new 9th Congressional District, Gosar bid farewell to the cities and counties no longer in his district while introducing himself to the district's new areas.

Some of the issues listed on Gosar's reelection website are protecting Second Amendment rights and religious freedoms, supporting cuts to government spending, balancing the budget, and repealing Obamacare.

Gosar, a conservative, is a strong ally of former President Donald Trump and echoed the baseless 2020 election conspiracies Trump promoted. Critics also have called him an extremist and have accused him of helping instigate the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
